How it works

How does Social Score work?

Social Score reads live public signals from GitHub, LinkedIn, portfolios, writing, talks, and press. Each signal is weighted by strength and combined into one 0 to 100 score with a plain English verdict. Every point is traceable to a source URL. Typical computation completes in under ninety seconds.

What Social Score reads

  • LinkedIn profile
  • GitHub activity
  • Portfolio or personal site
  • Writing (Medium, personal blog, Substack, dev.to)
  • Talks (conference listings, YouTube, podcasts)
  • Press and media mentions
  • Professional licenses, publications, patents
  • Any URL a recruiter pastes

Identity across platforms

Rook verifies that the person on each surface is the same person. Names, titles, dates, and visible artifacts are cross referenced. A resume that claims eight years at a company with no matching LinkedIn, portfolio, or public work will score lower — honestly — because the public web does not support the claim.

How signals are weighted

Not every signal is equal. A shipping record weighs more than a follower count. Recent work weighs more than dormant history. Deep work (a presentation, a paper, a merged pull request) weighs more than a passive mention.

The top three signals that moved the number are surfaced alongside the score, so recruiters can see which weight was doing the work.

The verdict

Each score comes with a short, honest sentence. “Strong candidate, verified.” “Consistent shipping, but thin leadership.” “Resume and public signals disagree on timeline.” Plain English, no jargon.

Open the receipts

Every score is a stack of public sources. Tap any one of them to see the page Rook read. No trust without the trail. This is why Social Score is a trust layer, not a judge.

Freshness

Every score is computed live, not pulled from a cache. When a candidate adds a link or ships something new, the next open recomputes from scratch.

What Social Score does not do

  • It does not decide hires. That decision stays with the recruiter.
  • It does not scrape gated content. Only the public web is read.
  • It does not penalize quiet candidates. Low volume is not low quality.
  • It does not infer protected attributes. Age, gender, nationality, and ethnicity are not inputs.

Common questions

Is Social Score a background check?

No. A background check is a legal process that queries criminal, credit, and employment databases with candidate consent. Social Score only reads the public web and never queries gated databases.

How long does it take?

Typically under ninety seconds per candidate. Scores recompute live when new links are added.

Does Social Score work for candidates with small online footprints?

Yes. Low volume is not low quality. Rook weighs signal strength, not post count, and tells you plainly when a candidate is strong but quiet.

Can a candidate dispute a Social Score?

Candidates can submit additional public URLs through their careers page profile. Rook folds them in on the next recomputation without losing the rest.

Does Social Score include protected attributes?

No. Age, gender, nationality, ethnicity, religion, marital status, and similar protected attributes are never inputs to Social Score.
